Ready to tackle your outdated master bath? Or perhaps your home could use a second bathroom for guests or your growing family. More and more, people are expecting bathrooms to become places for relaxation in the home, and many older bathrooms just don’t cut it. For whatever reason you’re deciding to remodel, you’ll want to make upgrades that are both stylish and functional to make your investment worthwhile.
As general contractors in Ocala, FL, we at Tallen Builders have built our fair share of bathrooms. To keep our readers up-to-date on the latest home trends, here are some popular bathroom remodel ideas to consider for your upcoming building project.
Large, Frameless Showers
Larger, airier showers are hot for today’s modern bathrooms. The stalls themselves are getting larger, and glass is winning out over curtains. Frameless glass in particular is the shower material of choice, as it creates the illusion of more space within the shower. Don’t worry about this trend stopping any time soon – we can’t imagine people wanting less room to shower!
Freestanding Tubs
While some homeowners choose to get rid of their tub entirely, for those who do want to keep it, freestanding tubs are the way to go. Foremost, these tubs are a design statement. Since these tubs aren’t affixed to a wall, they stand out as a focal point in your bathroom. A freestanding tub will also create the illusion of a larger bathroom, thanks to the visible space between the tub and the floor.
High-Efficiency Fixtures
Water conservation has become a concern for many Americans, so it makes sense that we’re seeing more requests for water-saving plumbing fixtures in bathroom remodels. Low-flush and dual flush toilets save gallons of water per flush, but work just as well as your standard commode. Low-flow showerheads can cut down your water use by as much as 70 percent. You can also easily retrofit any faucet of your liking with a water-saving aerator of flow restrictor.
Let the Light In
Whether it’s natural, artificial or a combination of the two, more lighting is being used in the bathroom. With natural lighting, the key is to use windows that let light in, but don’t also create a clear view in from the outside. Skylights and windows places high up on the wall are great options for bathrooms. For lighting fixtures, designer options are all the rage. Chandeliers and unique lighting fixtures brighten up the space with a glamorous touch.
Universal Design Features
Universal design is a broad term used to describe building design that caters to those who are older or disabled. As baby boomers begin to age, we’re seeing more universal design features being incorporated into bathroom remodels. This means incorporating features such as curbless showers, grab bars, slip resistant floors and extra space for maneuvering.
